The third International Festival of Glass is the highlight of every glass enthusiast’s calendar. Reinvigorating Stourbridge’s reputation as a global glass centre it draws large national and international audiences into Stourbridge and the Black Country to see glassmaking at its finest. Featuring world class exhibitions, including the prestigious British Glass Biennale, demonstrations, performances and events, the festival shatters all preconceptions by presenting a multi-media, visually exciting and dynamic interpretation.
Glass music, glass puppets, glass dresses, what can’t you do with this amazing material! Come and be bewitched over the August bank holiday weekend from 22 to 25 August with events throughout the historic Glass Quarter. The third International Festival of Glass promises to be the most exciting glass gathering in Britain - since the last festival two years ago!
International masters from as far afield as the USA, Australia, Germany, Israel and Egypt will lead workshops in the week prior to the Festival; a stunning exhibition of current British glass will be shown in the vast and dramatic shell of one of the areas most famous glasshouses while glass and other craft studios across the region will welcome visitors at Open Studio Days to watch skilled artists and maybe try their hand at one or two of the extraordinary range of craft skills.
The whole family can join in many of the workshops and throughout the festival there will be opportunities to party the night away with traditional food, musical entertainment, dramatic glassmaking demonstrations and performance events.
Here in The Black Country with more miles of canals than Venice, key festival sites are linked by water. Once a vital route in for glassmaking materials and out for world famous glasswares on their way to international markets the canal becomes a focal point with narrowboat rides along the canal linking many of the festival venues.
