Continuing the theme of low technology furnaces from the 2006 festival; Egyptian glassmakers Galal El Gendi and his son, Mohamed Galal El Gendi, will show how to build an Egyptian furnace. The furnace has an integral annealer and can use propane or recycled oil as a fuel.
Participants will assist in building the furnace and have the opportunity to try glassmaking Egyptian style (the glassmaker remains seated the whole time) demonstrated by Galal and Mohamed.
Galal is a traditional artisan glassmaker with 35 years experience, he has built furnaces in Yemen, Tunisia and Morocco. Mohamed is also an accomplished
glassmaker. As well as blowing a variety of traditional Egyptian glass, they will demonstrate beadmaking from the furnace on this, their first visit to Europe.
