Stourbridge gave its name to the glass industry of the surrounding area and was a vital centre of associated trade and commerce. Although surrounded by the modern-day ring-road the town still possesses a plethora of historic buildings, many with Georgian facades on earlier timber frames. As can be expected there are numerous glass trade connections ranging from the 17th Century Talbot Hotel where the Glass masters would meet, to the former College of Art and Technical Institute where many 20th Century tradesmen and artists learned their craft.
