ANTOINE LEPERLIER (FRANCE)
Dates: Monday 20 -Thursday 23 August
Venue: School of Art and Design, University of Wolverhampton
Level: All levels
Antoine Leperlier’s apprenticeship in pate de verre began in 1968, under the eye of his grandfather, legendary pate de Verre artist François Décorchemont, although it was not until ten years later that he began his own technical research following a period of intensive archival work on Décorchemont’s papers. He has exhibited internationally since 1982, is represented in thirty major international glass collections, and won a number of international awards. He was shortlisted for the Bombay Sapphire Prize in 2005.
In this rare class, you will gain some hands on experience of colouring glass with oxides, frits and kugler powder, making moulds and models using rubber and the lost wax technique, working directly with styrofoam and clay and making refractory moulds. Due to time limitations it is envisaged that participants will complete small samples which will form the basis of future personal research and artwork.
Antoine will also discuss how to prepare effects in the mould, firing cycles and polishing techniques.
