Czech glass has a distinct aesthetic that arose out of a strong tradition of artistic training in drawing, painting and sculpture coupled with a knowledge of glassmaking that extends back 600 years. Curated by Dr Jaroslav Polanecky, this exhibition will showcase the work of both pioneers and contemporary exponents who have inherited this unique legacy including Stanilav Libensky, Vladimir Kopecky,Borek Sipek, Rene Roubicek, Miluse Roubickova, Jaromir Rybak, Bohumil Elias, Leos Smejkal, Pavel Kopriva, Pavel Satrapa and Lukas Jaburek . The exhibition will prompt considerations around the last five decades of Czech glass in relation to the growth of the studio movement elsewhere in the world such as in the USA and the UK and to questions surrounding Czech influence in the growth of the studio glass movement internationally.
