British Glass Biennale
Made Together Award

A new prize was on offer at the 2006 British Glass Biennale – the £5,000 Made Together Award sponsored by Net Infinity; a project supporting the high value added cluster for consumer products across the West Midlands.

The Made Together Award was an opportunity for collaboration across design clusters to create new and exciting work in the spirit of the British Glass Biennale, promoting excellence in contemporary glass working in combination with another cluster group.

The cluster groups are based on the West Midlands established traditional manufacturing base:

Carpets & Rugs           Furniture                     Glass                           Leather goods

Jewellery                    Ceramics                     Clothing & Textiles

All work submitted was subject to the same jury process as the British Glass Biennale applications.

Eligibility: At least one of the collaborators must be based in one of the following West Midlands regions: Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire and Coventry, The Black Country, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Birmingham and Solihull.

Each piece must be made predominantly of glass working in conjunction with a material or design from one of the cluster groups. Two or more glassmakers working in collaboration is also permitted.

A statement of no more than 200 words outlining eligibility for the Net Infinity Prize must be sent with the submission.

All work will be juried alongside the pieces submitted for the British Glass Biennale, to ensure a cohesive exhibition and high standard of quality.

Each artist/maker can submit a maximum of three pieces for consideration for the British Glass Biennale. However, not all pieces need be made with the same collaboration team (e.g. an artist may collaborate with another designer for one piece and submit two of their own works into the Biennale)

All rules applying to the British Glass Biennale were also applied to artists/makers eligible for the Made Together Award.

The winners of both the International Festival of Glass Biennale Award and the Net Infinity Prize will be selected by the jury on the morning of the exhibition opening. It is possible for an outstanding piece of work to win both prizes.

The prize money will be divided between the collaborating teams.
